SAMPLE CLIENT LETTER Dear [name of healthcare client], I am writing to you regarding a new opportunity for your organization to expand its community health resources to list on your IRS Form 990 Reports and thus may assist in meeting your community benefit obligations, particularly at a time when healthcare providers are facing increased financial pressures. I am a member of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the nation's largest, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field with more than 10,000 members. As part of AHLA’s public interest mission, the Association has developed a Community Benefit Toolkit (Toolkit) for the purpose of educating its members, their clients and local communities on important health law issues. As the enclosed Table of Contents illustrates, the core of the Toolkit is AHLA’s award-winning Public Information Series, a growing collection of informative, user-friendly guidebooks and fact sheets on health law topics of interest to both consumers and healthcare professionals that are available on a complimentary basis. In its 2008 Edition of A Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit, the Catholic Health Association has recognized AHLA’s Public Information Series as a viable form of community health education and a demonstrable form of community benefit. Your organization can opt to co-brand any of the resources within the Public Information Series to share within your local communities either electronically as a .pdf or obtain a limited license to reproduce the publications in hard copy. The content of these publications is consistent with the goal of community benefit programs to address community health needs through increasing access to healthcare services and improving health in our communities. Educating the healthcare community and the public to better understand healthcare issues and prepare for difficult situations ultimately will leading to better care and planning for patients and their communities. This Toolkit is available online at no cost to your organization at www.healthlawyers.org/communitybenefit. If you have any questions regarding how your organization can use the Community Benefit Toolkit to meet your community benefit obligations, please call me. Sincerely,
[Name of AHLA Member]
